A complete set of ten illustrated books on the Satsuma Rebellion (also known as the Seinan War), a battle between samurai and the new imperial government which took place from January to September, 1877, culminating in the elimination of the samurai class and its leader, Saigo Takamori. This set was published in December of the same year. The artist, Yoshikage (芳景), was a pupil of Kuniyoshi. A full set, in a very clean impression and with occasional shōmenzuri embossing to wrappers.

 

On double leaves, fukurotoji-style. Original wrappers, with a few light marks. Minor occasional foxing to leaves. Binding string of v.10 cut. Housed in non-original custom slipcase. 10 v., complete. 7; 7; 7; 7; 7; 7; 7; 7; 7; 7 leaves. 17.7 x 11.9 cm.
