Believed to be a retitled edition of Yakken Hanrei Narabini Fugen ("Keys of Translation, with an Appendix"), this book provides information on the Dutch language for Japanese readers. Yakken Hanrei Narabini Fugen is thought to have been published as an introduction to Dutch to help with understanding the Yakken (1810), Fujibayashi Fuzan's Dutch-Japanese dictionary. Fuzan (1781- 1836), the author, was a Dutch studies scholar and physician who studied under Inamura Sanpaku, a student of Ōtsuki Gentaku, in Kyoto (Network of Knowledge: Western Science and the Tokugawa Information Revolution (2016), p. 85).
One volume, complete, on double leaves, fukurotoji style. Presumed original wrappers, lightly soiled, small losses to extremities and lower wrapper. Title in manuscript. Occasional wormholes, predominantly to margins, and foxing. 27 leaves. 25.3 x 17.5 cm. Text in Japanese and Dutch.
