A loose-leaf album authored, illustrated, and privately published by Uzuki Sasei (active ca. 1920-40s). The album features one woodblockprinted preface, one page of tips for painting haiga (simple illustrations to accompany haiku poems), and twelve woodblock-printed illustrations by Sasei with twelve accompanying typeset sheets explaining the poems and their seasonal references. The image on the upper panel of the folder is also woodblock-printed. The typeset page of tips features a caricature by Sasei of himself. The work is recorded in the colophon as the zenshū ("first collection"). The playful illustrations predominantly feature plants, fruits, vegetables, and people. A charming set of prints illustrated by Sasei, in nice condition. First collection only [of two].
Original brown folder very lightly worn, original ties and tipped-in daisen title panel present. Very small hole to left extremity of woodblock-printed preface. Light foxing, marks, and offsetting to leaves. Housed in original brown book-envelope, chips and tears to extremities, corners bumped, one small mark to centre of upper panel. [Two introductory leaves, twelve woodblock-printed leaves, twelve explanatory leaves], complete. Woodblockprinted leaves measure approximately 29.7 x 18.6; folder measures 32.3 x 19.5 cm
