A manuscript of forty designs (including 23 in colour) for okunizome textile dyeing. Okunizome, later referred to as Kaga yūzen or Kaga okunizome, was a dyeing technique predominantly used in Kaga province (around Ishikawa prefecture) in the 17th and 18th centuries. The designs in this manuscript feature books, flowers, birds, vases, bowls, pens, butterflies, fans, toys, instruments, seashells, and so on.
One four-hole-bound (yotsumetoji) volume, complete, on double leaves, traditional East Asian binding style (fukurotoji). Original wrappers a little soiled, a few small holes to upper. Title in manuscript and ex-ownership/creator's seal to upper also. Fukurotoji occasionally split. Very minor browning, thumbing, and foxing to leaves. Ex-ownership seals to pastedowns. Comes with a letter from an ex-owner. [10 unnumbered leaves]. 13 x 19.6 cm.
