Jippensha, Ikku [text by]; Nagahide [illustrated by].

Ōsaka: Hon Yasu [Honya Yasubē], [ca late Edo period (1820-50s)?].

A humorous ephemeral Kamigata work by the famed gesaku author Jippensha Ikku. The first section, which bears similarities to the better-known Edo period work Sentakujo yori Nomishirami Kadomo he Omōshidashi no Koto ("A Formal Statement from a Laundry to Fleas, Lice, and Mosquitoes"), records a comical letter filled with puns on the names of types of fish. The second section contains a similar letter based on puns on the names of different alcoholic beverages. Nagahide's toba-e-style illustration on the upper wrapper shows a performer reading out Ikku's piece at a yose recital. No copies traced in OCLC.

One karitoji-bound volume, complete, on double leaves, traditional East Asian binding style (fukurotoji). Light thumbing and creases. Previous binding holes present. [2] leaves including original upper wrapper. 18.6 x 11.9 cm.
