Kiso Kaidō Rokujūkyū-tsugi ["Sixty-Nine Stations of the Kiso Road"]

A Taishō era set of reduced-size woodblock-printed reproductions of Eisen and Hiroshige's famous Sixty-Nine Stations of the Kiso Kaidō series originally published between 1835 and 1837. The set includes one woodblock-printed index page and seventy colour woodblock-printed illustrations, each featuring one of the 'stations' along the Kiso Road postal route. The woodblocks for the set were cut by master carver Takano Shichinosuke, who notably also cut the blocks for several highly sought-after prints by Hashiguchi Goyō.
71 woodblock-printed leaves, complete, loosely inserted into original wooden box. Very minor occasional marks and creases to leaf margins. Box discoloured and with a few minor cracks, original ribbons present. Leaves measure 14 x 21 cm; box measures approximately 23 x 15.7 x 3.7 cm.
