[Creator/s unidentified].
[Japan, ca. late Meiji to early Shōwa period (1900-30s)?].
Kamishimo garments, ceremonial or formal wear for men, were used predominantly by samurai in the Edo period, but continue to be used in Japan to this day for special occasions. This collection includes two naga-kamishimo katakinu (sleeveless jackets) and two pairs of naga-kamishimo hakama (trousers). At least one of the garments (top right) seems to have been made from hemp.
Two kamishimo jackets and two pairs of kamishimo trousers. Occasional holes, tears, and stains. The garments (from left to right, top to bottom) measure approximately 74 x 63 cm, 65 x 69 cm, 99 x 30 cm, and 83 x 26 cm.
