A set of two manuscript albums containing portraits and brief biographies of thirty-six military generals, military strategists, or politicians from Chinese history. Some of the figures included are Sun Tzu (c. 544–496 BCE), Han Xin (died 196 BCE), Li Guangbi (708–764), Zhao Chongguo (137 BCE– 52 BCE), Han Shizhong (1089-1151), Zhang Liang (c. 251 BCE- 189 BCE), Zhou Bo (died c.169 BC), Wang Jian (fl. 220s BCE), Zhou Yu (175–210), and Wu Qi (440–381 BCE). Each portrait appears on the right-hand side of a double-page spread, and a very concise biography in Chinese is provided on the left. The detailed portraits reflect the illustrator's desire to accurately portray the facial features and garments of the historical figures. An impressive set, thought to have been produced during the Edo period.

Two accordion-bound (gajōsō) volumes, presumed complete. Presumed non-original boards fraying at extremities, daisen title panels a little rubbed. Light browning and occasional small marks internally. Occasional minor scrapes to text and illustrations, almost indistinguishable with mounting. Creases to pastedowns. Each album measures 29.5 x 20.3 cm. Text in Chinese.
