Kyōto: Kyōjiya Hikobē-ten, [ca. late Edo period (1800-50s?)].
An advertisement for goods produced by a kyōjiya - a specialist in mounting hanging scrolls and installing interior screens but also, as this leaf shows, a manufacturer of stationery. The flyer advertises a wide range of paper sizes and types (torinokoshi, chiyogami, ehangire, sarasagami, etc.), canvases (shikishi, tanzaku, etc.), notebooks, brush boxes, playing cards (Genji karuta, kyōka karuta, etc.), envelopes, sweet boxes, dolls, and other assorted goods. The postscript adds that items like scrolls, tekagami (calligraphy model books), and byōbu (decorative folding screens) can also be procured. A valuable record of the types of papers available in Kyoto in the late Edo period.
One leaf, woodblock-printed on one side, complete. A few small marks, numerous creases and folds. 27.4 x 38.7 cm.
