Nankyoku Tanken Jitsuroku [True Record of the Antarctic Expedition]
Tada, Keiichi [text by].
Tōkyō: Kainan Shuppan Kyōkai, Shōwa 31 [1956]. First edition.
A record of Japan's first Antarctic expedition (1910-1912) by the expedition's secretary and, later, assistant naturalist Tada Keiichi (1883-1959), following earlier works including his personal, unauthorised, account of 1912. Tada was the founder of the Kainan Tanken Kyōkai (Kainan Exploration Society), an offshoot of which appears to have published this volume. This work includes six pages of photographic illustrations that mainly depict the author with important figures. Despite being subtitled jōkan (upper (i.e. first) volume), no record of any later volumes was traced.
One Western-bound volume, complete. Original card wrappers browned, lightly foxed, and with a few small marks. Lower endpapers and textblock edges foxed. Browning and small occasional marks internally. Several leaves lightly dog-eared. [3 leaves of photographic illustrations], [8], 206 p. 18.2 x 12.8 cm.
