Rokusan Shingaku no Zu [Illustration of the Six-Three Study of the Mind]

Hanamata, Yoshitarō [edited by].

Kanda, [Tōkyō]: Hanamata Yoshitarō, Meiji 19 [1886].

This informational sheet tells the reader how to identify weak points on their body using a series of calculations involving their age and the numbers one to nine (each used to represent a part of the body). Alongside the mathematical quackery are two addenda advising readers on how to orient their pillows and position their stoves for maximum auspiciousness. The publisher, Hanamata Yoshitarō, was a manufacturer of medicines, and is recorded as having been banned from selling medicinal flypapers in Meiji 23 (1890).

One leaf, woodblock-printed on one side, complete. Minor wear, creases, and soiling. Price stamp in upper right margin. Two tiny wormholes to print. 16.6 x 24.3 cm.
