[Untitled collection of booksellers' tickets, book-binders' labels, and ex-libris]
[Compiler unidentified].
[Compiled in Japan, ca. 1930s?].
A collection of approximately 120 ex-libris and 120 booksellers' tickets and bookbinders' labels from around the world, with a particularly striking geographical range: booksellers and binders from Glasgow, London, Oxford, Aberdeen, Tokyo, Toronto, Bombay, Melbourne, Bath, Salt Lake City, Dublin, Hamburg, Leipzig, Berlin, Milan, Boston, Madrid, Leiden, Paris, and many other cities are represented. The ex-libris, including one belonging to Walter Raleigh, are predominantly English, with examples from France, Germany, and Japan also present. English and Japanese annotations on the mounts suggest that the collection passed through several hands. The ex-libris, most dating from the nineteenth century, will appeal to collectors, while the unusual gathering of booksellers' and bookbinders' tickets will undoubtedly be the highlight for booksellers and bookbinders. Either way, this is an appealing collection for the bibliophile.
Set of around 120 bookplates and 120 bookseller/bookbinder labels, the latter tipped-in to 18 card leaves. Most ex-libris mounted individually on paper or card. Creases, wear, marks, occasional tears, and annotations. [Ex-libris vary in size; card leaves measure 30.3 x 23.2 cm].
